Epilogue – based on the teleplay “Badge of the Outsider” by Kathleen Hite and story by John C. Champion

(JESS HARPER is in the front room of the Sherman ranch house. His saddlebags are on the dining table. He takes money out of his saddle bags.)

JESS HARPER: Well, how’s that look to ya?

SLIM SHERMAN: Hey, wha’d you do, clean old Carney out?

JESS HARPER: Ah, you couldn’t clean out a cattle buyer like him…Yeah, I stopped over in Laramie on the way back. Heard the darndest story about you.

SLIM SHERMAN: You did? What kind of a story?

JESS HARPER: Ah, something about you bringin’ Doc Longley in single-handed. Something about you taking up sides with him against nearly the whole town.

SLIM SHERMAN: You didn’t believe them did ya?

JESS HARPER: Believe a story like that about you? Course I didn’t. You wouldn’t do anything like that, would ya…

SLIM SHERMAN (Gazes at JESS HARPER and turns away with a smile.)

JESS HARPER: …or would ya?
