Epilogue – based upon “The Lawbreakers” script by Jay Simms

(JONESY, SLIM SHERMAN, JESS HARPER and BARNABY CADE are eating at the table in the front room of the Sherman ranch house. The SHERIFF and ALBERT REEVES are sitting in chairs, nearby.)

BARNABY CADE: I seen you catfooting around town. N’ mind that. This here honest feller took me in. Why’d you bring me back here?

JESS HARPER: ‘Cause that stage driver you killed was a friend of Slim’s and Slim’s a friend of’ mine.

BARNABY CADE: Shoulda known. Anybody that’s got no more regard for money than you have’s bound to have friends.

SLIM SHERMAN: And my friend’s dead.

BARNABY CADE: Chocktaw done that. He’s gone to his reward. What’re you holdin’ me for?

JESS HARPER: You killed Dallas.

BARNABY CADE: Snake bit him.

JESS HARPER: Alright, you killed Chocktaw.

BARNABY CADE: Self-defense – saving your life.

SLIM SHERMAN: You’re a bank robber.

BARNABY CADE: Served full time for that.

ALBERT REEVES: The army got its money back. That’s all I’m interested in.

SHERIFF: Alright Judge, you finish your cracklin’ chicken, then you mount up and you ride out of this territory… or I’ll figure a charge that’ll stick.

BARNABY CADE: Well, I owe this fella $37 for outfitting me.

JESS: Be worth more than that just to get rid o’ ya’.

BARNABY CADE: Alright, I’ll go. Soon as you sign the affidavey.

JESS HARPER: What affidavit?

BARNABY CADE: The one identifying the boys. Reward out on all of ’em. Shouldn’t have to come out of this thing empty-handed. Served two years. Oughta leastwise get the bounty.

SHERIFF: The old sidewinder’s within his rights. It’s up to you, Jess.

JESS HARPER: Oh, somebody write it up. I’ll sign it.

BARNABY CADE: Heh! Now you’re talkin’. Always figured there must be some good in you law-abiding folks. Never figured I’d live to see it…Ah, Ya..ya got any anymore of them squash taters?
