Epilogue – based on a teleplay “Hour After Dawn” by John Dunkel and story by John Dunkel & Dan Ullman

(CHEYENNE MARSHAL rides into Laramie.)

CHEYENNE MARSHAL: Where can I find a sheriff named Sherman?

SLIM SHERMAN: Well, I’m Sherman, Marshal, but not wearin’ the badge anymore.

CHEYENNE MARSHAL: Ya what? Look, I got an urgent message from a sheriff named Sherman. I rode all the way from Cheyenne.

SLIM SHERMAN: Yeah, well, I sent the message. but I’m not the man to talk to now. Go in the office over there.

(CHEYENNE MARSHAL walks over to the sheriff’s office. MORT CORY walks out the door.)

MORT CORY: Hello, Marshal. Glad to see ya. What can I do for ya?

CHEYENNE MARSHAL: What can you do for me? What are you talkin’ about? I rode half the night to get here and I……

MORT CORY: Really? You must be tuckered out. Come on inside and have a cup a coffee.

(MORT CORY and the CHEYENNE MARSHAL walk into the sheriff’s office.)

CHEYENNE MARSHAL: Well, sure.

SLIM SHERMAN: Jess, let’s go home.

JESS HARPER: Yeah, that’s what I’m gonna do. Why don’t you ride over to Indian Wells?

SLIM SHERMAN: What for?

JESS HARPER: I hear they need a new sheriff over there. Somebody with experience.

(JESS HARPER smiles. SLIM SHERMAN gives JESS HARPER a dour look. They mount their horses. SLIM SHERMAN looks at JESS HARPER dourly, again. They both canter out of town.)
