Epilogue – based on the script by Donn Mullally & Lee Erwin

(SLIM is greasing the axle of a buckboard in the Sherman ranch yard. CORY LAKE and NATANA comes riding into the ranch yard.)

CORY: Hi, Slim.

SLIM: Welcome back. How’d everything go?

CORY: Well, I got married. This is my wife, Natana, the chief’s daughter.

SLIM: (Shakes CORY’s hand) Well, congratulations. (Addresses NATANA) And the best of luck to you, too.

(NATANA looks at SLIM with an expression of puzzlement.)

CORY: She doesn’t speak English yet, Slim. One of the things I gotta teach her.

SLIM: Real pretty.

CORY: Yeah, she sure is. (Pause) What’s been happenin’ around here, since I been away?

SLIM: Oh, nothing much. Oh, you might be glad to know that that law finally caught up with that fake doctor, Colon. He and his muscle man are in jail.

CORY: That’s a good place for ’em, Slim.

SLIM: Hey, when’s the rest of the tribe comin’ in?

CORY: Well, they’re not.

SLIM: Why not?

CORY: The chief and his council turned it down. They said the easy life on a ranch would make fat old men of their braves in no time.

SLIM: Fat old men? .

CORY: Yeah, like you and me.

(SLIM pats his stomach and looks down. Then he looks up and smiles. CORY and NATANA ride away. SLIM pats his stomach again, smiles and gets back to work.)
