Epilogue – based on “The Debt,” a script by David Lang

(JESS HARPER rides down the road to the ranch and slowly trots up to the Sherman ranch house.)

SLIM SHERMAN: (Comes out of the ranch house front door, wearing an apron) Howdy, stranger.

JESS HARPER: Hello, Slim.

SLIM SHERMAN: Just in time for supper.

JESS HARPER: (Dismounts) Well, I figured I had it just about timed right.

SLIM SHERMAN: Everything work out alright?

JESS HARPER: With Markle?

SLIM SHERMAN: Yeah.

JESS HARPER: Yeah. Just fine. He’s free as a bird. Callin’ in the posters on ‘im.

SLIM SHERMAN: Ah, good. (Pats JESS HARPER’s left side)

JESS HARPER: (Flinches and grabs his ribs.)

SLIM SHERMAN: What’s the matter? You getting old?

JESS HARPER: Ah! No, just kinda worn out from stopping bullets.

SLIM SHERMAN: Did ya get hit in the ribs?

JESS HARPER: Where’d you think I got hit? In the head?

SLIM SHERMAN: I don’t know, Jess. Sometimes it’s kinda hard to tell.

(SLIM SHERMAN and JESS HARPER laugh.)
