Epilogue – based on the script “General Delivery” by Frank L. Moss

(SLIM SHERMAN, JESS HARPER, JONESY and ANDY SHERMAN are rebuilding the barn. SLIM SHERMAN and JESS HARPER are working on the barn door.)

JONESY: (JONESY carries the front of a board, with ANDY SHERMAN carrying the back end, to SLIM SHERMAN.) See how this fits.

SLIM SHERMAN: Oh, that’s a perfect fit. Hey, you’re pretty good at this, aren’t ya.

JONESY: I learned it from my Uncle Bert.

JESS HARPER: I just don’t know how he does it.

SLIM SHERMAN: Oh, this is gonna to be neat.

ANDY SHERMAN: Kinda wish Mr. Caulder was still alive to see it.

JESS HARPER: We did our best for him, Andy.

ANDY SHERMAN: Yeah, I know.

SLIM SHERMAN: Andy, he did see something through your eyes that he’d never seen before, himself. But it was too late. That kind of man would never die in bed. He… he had to die the way he lived, with a gun in his hand.

JONESY: (Approaches with another board) ‘Course I could stand here and hold this all day.

(SLIM SHERMAN and JONESY set the board in place. It is too long.)

JONESY: Suppose I’m going to have to build this thing all by myself. Just cut it off there. (Gestures where to cut the board, turns and walks away)

(SLIM SHERMAN makes as if he’s going to crown Jonesy and then smiles at JESS HARPER. SLIM SHERMAN and JESS HARPER start hammering the boards in place.)
