Epilogue – based on the script “Saddle and Spur” by Sherman Vincent Harper

(Two heavily laden horses come down the road toward the Sherman ranch house. JONESY comes out of the barn.)

JONESY: Andy? Come here, Andy!

ANDY SHERMAN: (Runs out from the barn)

JONESY: What do I see there?

ANDY SHERMAN: That’s Slim and Jess!

JONESY: Slim and Jess? Well, what are they ridin’?

ANDY SHERMAN: The horses! Come on.

(ANDY SHERMAN and JONESY run towards the approaching horses.)

SLIM SHERMAN: Hi, Andy, Jonesy.

JONESY: Hi

ANDY SHERMAN: Hi

JESS HARPER: Hi, fellas.

JONESY: Whad’ya got there?

SLIM SHERMAN: Groceries!

(SLIM SHERMAN and JESS HARPER gallop to the barn. JONESY and ANDY SHERMAN run after them.)

JONESY: D’ya sell the cattle for cash in advance? How’d ya do that?

SLIM SHERMAN: We didn’t. We’re not gonna sell ’em ’til the prices go up. And in the meantime, Jess and I made enough to keep us in food for a couple months.

ANDY SHERMAN: Well, how’d ya make so much, so fast?

JESS HARPER: Ah, it was easy. Get yourself shot at day and night. Get trapped in jail with the town council tryin’ to kill ya. Find a bunch a cattle trapped in a cave. Things like that.

SLIM SHERMAN: Hey, you forgot about the dynamitin’.

JESS HARPER: Oh yeah. Ya gotta almost get yourself blown to pieces. We had a lot a fun.

ANDY SHERMAN: Why do ya suppose they’re lyin’ ta us like that, Jonesy?

JONESY: Because they stole it, that’s why.

SLIM SHERMAN: You know, they’re much too decent to eat food bought with stolen money, Jess, I think you and I are goin’ to get nice and fat.

(JESS HARPER and SLIM SHERMAN throw the bags of groceries over their shoulders and walk to the ranch house. JONESY and ANDY SHERMAN look at each other and then run in after them.)
