Epilogue – based on the teleplay “Broken Honor” by Robert W. Wright and story by Joyce Perry
(JESS HARPER is unloading a kerosene lamp from the wagon in front of the Laramie stage depot. He walks towards the front door. Inside, MIKE WILLIAMS runs out of the back of the room.)
MIKE WILLIAMS: Yes ma’am. (Pulls the door open)
JESS HARPER: (Almost drops the lamp when the door opens) Oh! Easy Tiger.
(DAISY COOPER and MARTHA HALLORAN hurry forward from the room behind the office.)
DAISY COOPER: Mike, do be careful.
MARTHA HALLORAN: It doesn’t matter, Daisy. I’m so happy about moving into town that I wouldn’t care if everything broke.
JESS HARPER: (To MIKE WILLIAMS) I’ve never seen you work so hard. What’s wrong with ya?
MIKE WILLIAMS: Mrs. Hallorahn said that when we were finished, I can have some fudge. So I’m not wastin’ any time.
JESS HARPER: Well, get going. I’ll be right behind ya. (Laughs)
MARTHA HALLORAN: Roy and I’ll never be able to thank you. All of you.
DAISY COOPER: Oh, don’t start that again, Martha. After the way you took care of Jess and helped him get that money back, it’s the least we could do.
MARTHA HALLORAN: You don’t know everything that happened that day.
JESS HARPER: You better listen to her, Martha. There’s one thing I learned about women and that’s not to argue with ’em. Especially the one that rules the roost with us.
DAISY COOPER: Rules the roost! I’m going to hold you to that, Jess Harper. Don’t you think I won’t. (Looks at MARTHA HALLORAN) Now show me where this goes. I might just take it home.
(DAISY COOPER and MARTHA HALLORAN leave the room. SLIM SHERMAN and ROY HALLORAN are at the office desk.)
SLIM SHERMAN: Well, that’s all there is to it, Roy . Keep the records straight and you’ll be a better station agent than Potter ever hoped to be.
ROY HALLORAN: I don’t know if I can run things as close to the vest as he did.
SLIM SHERMAN: Don’t worry about that. I found out that the head office would rather spend money than take needless chances. That’s why they fired him.
JESS HARPER: So, just don’t give us any trouble, hear. (Pats ROY HALLORAN on the back.) Come on, Slim, give me a hand, will ya?
(JESS HARPER and SLIM SHERMAN walk out to the wagon.)
