Deathbed Confession Clears Ed Stacy.
Dying of gun shot wounds suffered in a futile attempt to rob the Overland Stage, Joe Barnes, a former driver, confessed to another holdup two years ago and exonerated Ed Stacy who had been convicted of the crime and sentenced to a long term in prison. Will Stanhope, president of the Overland line, announced he would personally arrange for Stacy’s release and expressed profound regret at the miscarriage of justice.
