(SITTING BULL and a number of Sioux ride to the top of the hill. FATHER ELLIOTT, carrying his banner, goes to meet them.)
SITTING BULL: He has courage, the robed one. He carries the sign of the Great Spirit. I will go down to meet him. Alone. Perhaps he is the one we have been waiting for… a white man who can be trusted.
(JESS HARPER watches from the cliff. He uncocks his rifle and hugs it close to him, shaking his head in wonderment as SITTING BULL and FATHER ELLIOTT come together. They both clasp the banner.)
