Epilogue – based upon the script “Stage Stop” by Robert Pirosh
(JESS HARPER is riding down the road to the next town. Suddenly, SLIM SHERMAN appears, galloping after him.)
SLIM SHERMAN : Jess! Jess! (SLIM SHERMAN comes along side JESS HARPER) Whoa. You’re a hard man to catch up with.
JESS HARPER: I want to make the next town before dark.
SLIM SHERMAN: We could use an extra hand around here. Wouldn’t pay much, but…
JESS HARPER: I like being my own boss.
SLIM SHERMAN: There’s a real future here, Jess. Finest cow country in Wyoming. Wha’d ya say? This could lead to somethin’.
JESS HARPER: Yeah, it sure could. Trouble.
SLIM SHERMAN: Why don’t we take that chance? Come on, we’ll be late for supper.
(SLIM SHERMAN takes off down the road and after a moments hesitation, JESS HARPER follows.)
(At the Sherman ranch, ANDY SHERMAN is impatiently watching from the gate to the pasture. He hits the gate with a stick and turns to go to the ranch house. He hears oncoming hooves and whirls around to see SLIM SHERMAN and JESS HARPER riding down the road.)
ANDY SHERMAN : Slim! Jess! Woohoo! (Runs towards SLIM SHERMAN and JESS HARPERand slaps SLIM’ SHERMANs hand. Turns back and runs towards the ranch house, shouting) Jonesy, they’re back. Both Slim and Jess. Do ya hear me, Jonesy? They’re back! Come on, Jonesy. (Reachs the ranch house kitchen door, shouting) Slim’s back and Jess is with ‘im.
(SLIM SHERMAN and JESS HARPER ride into the ranch yard. SLIM SHERMAN dismounts. JESS HARPER watches ANDY SHERMAN and then dismounts. ANDY SHERMAN runs back out of the house and to JESS HARPER, followed by JONESY.)
ANDY SHERMAN: (Grabs JESS HARPER’s arm) : Got ya! (Grabs SLIM SHERMAN’s arm.) Got ya!
JESS HARPER: (Looks at SLIM SHERMAN) : All right, deal me in. We’ll play a hand or two and see how it works out.
JONESY: But don’t deal any off the bottom.
All: (Laugh)
(JESS HARPER and SLIM SHERMAN unsaddle their horses as JONESY and ANDY SHERMAN go back to the ranch house.)
