Epilogue – based on the teleplay “Street of Hate” by Paul Savage and story by Dan Ullman
(Four spurred boots, badly in need of new soles, rest on the Sherman porch rail, worn by SLIM SHERMAN AND JESS HARPER.)
JESS HARPER:When you sent me packin’, Slim, did you figure it’d come to a shootout?
SLIM SHERMAN: No I didn’t. I figured wrong.
JESS HARPER:Well, sometimes a gun’s the only way.
SLIM SHERMAN: How long will that have to be, I wonder?
JESS HARPER: As long as you and I are alive. Maybe Andy will see a day when it’s not.
ANDY SHERMAN:(Comes out of the ranch house.) Supper’s on. Maybe I’ll see what day, Jess?
(JONESY appears in the doorway.)
JESS HARPER: The day Jonesy learns how to cook!
JONESY: Funny thing you mentioned that. I didn’t expect you back so soon so I only made enough for three.
JESS HARPER: (Jumps out of his chair and heads into the ranch house.) Ah, I was only kiddin’ Jonesy! Com’ on!
SLIM SHERMAN: (Laughs as he gets up to follow JESS HARPER through the front door of the ranch house.)
