Epilogue – based on “The Lonesome Gun,” a teleplay by Arthur Brown, Jr. and story by Dan Ullman

(JESS HARPER, ANDY SHERMAN and JONESY are sitting at the table in the kitchen of the Sherman ranch house.)

JONESY: And then that miserable animal turned around, just as neat as you please, and trotted off for home, leaving me. That was ten o’clock this morning and I’ve been on my feet ever since.(Sneezes) An-Andy, if I don’t catch pneumonia it’s gonna be a miracle.

SLIM SHERMAN: (Comes into the kitchen from the front room, carrying a bottle and shot glass.)  Jonesy, for medicinal purposes only.

JONESY: Oh, no, no, no. I prefer pneumonia.

(JESS HARPER is having a very hard time keeping a straight face throughout this conversation.)

SLIM SHERMAN: Listen, I got some water heating on the stove. You take a hot bath and get into bed, huh?

JONESY: I’ll do just that.

ANDY SHERMAN: Jess, look. (ANDY SHERMAN shows JESS HARPER the barrel of JONESY’s pistol.)

JESS HARPER: I’ll be dad gum. Jonesy, it’s a good thing you didn’t make it on time.

JONESY: Why?

JESS HARPER: Well, this barrel’s so full of mud if you’da fired it you’da blow’d your head off.

JONESY: I never was cut out to be a hero. That’s for sure.

SLIM SHERMAN: Jonesy, you tried. And I thank you for it.

JONESY: Yeah, but I might as wella stayed at home…(Coughs) or gone fishin’.

(SLIM SHERMAN, JESS HARPER, and ANDY SHERMAN laugh.)
