Epilogue – based on “The Pass,” a script by Donn Mullally & Lee Erwin

(SLIM SHERMAN is putting logs on the fire in the fireplace in the Sherman ranch house front room.)

ANDY SHERMAN: You don’t have to talk about it if you don’t wanta Slim.

SLIM SHERMAN: It’s not that, Andy. It’s bein’ home. Takes getting use to.

(JESS HARPER and JONESY are mending tack at the table.)

JESS HARPER: I heard about the girl, Slim. What was she like?

SLIM SHERMAN: I didn’t know her long enough to answer that, Jess. I wish I had.

ANDY SHERMAN: Well what about the rest of the Cheyennes, after you closed the pass?

SLIM SHERMAN: Well Andy, there wasn’t much they could do except turn around and go home. We did the same.

ANDY SHERMAN: (Shakes his head a little bit.)

JESS HARPER: Hey, I just thought about somethin’. We got mustering out pay comin’. It shoulda been mailed to us by now.

JONESY: It was mailed alright ‘n it’s already spent.

SLIM SHERMAN: Wha’da ya’ mean it’s already spent?

JONESY: Since you two weren’t back, Andy and I figure’d we’d go into business for ourselves.

ANDY SHERMAN: That’s right.

SLIM SHERMAN: What kinda business?

JONESY: If you’d a been a little more observant, you’d a noticed two new teams in the corral. Andy and I figure we’ll start a relay station. That is if, ah. you two military men don’t object.

JESS HARPER: Never make a go of it. D’ya think?

SLIM SHERMAN: Not a chance in a million. (SLIM tousles ANDY’s hair and laughs.) Let’s go take a look.

(SLIM SHERMAN, ANDY SHERMAN, and JESS HARPER head for the door.)
