Epilogue – based on the teleplay “Time of the Traitor” by Paul Savage and story by John C. Champion
(The prison gate of the Wyoming Territorial Prison opens and VIC PRESCOTT walks out. STEVE PRESCOTT and MILLIE get down from the carriage.)
VIC PRESCOTT: Steve, (Shakes hands with STEVE PRESCOTT) Millie. (Hugs MILLIE)
MILLIE: (MILLIE hugs VIC PRESCOTT)
STEVE PRESCOTT: You look fine, Pa.
VIC PRESCOTT: So do you, boy.
SLIM SHERMAN: (Walks forward) Prescott.
VIC PRESCOTT: (Offers his hand to SLIM SHERMAN. They shake hands.) Sherman, I, I hope you will be able to forget what happened between us.
SLIM SHERMAN: I didn’t come all this way not to.
VIC PRESCOTT: Eighteen months I spent thinking about what I was going to say when I got out. But now that it’s happening. I…
STEVE PRESCOTT: You don’t have to say anything, Pa.
VIC PRESCOTT: I could have spent the rest of my life inside those walls if Dr. Mudd hadn’t refused to testify against me. I just wish he were here so I could tell him how much… getting another chance means to me.
STEVE PRESCOTT: You wrote him. He knows.
VIC PRESCOTT: Well Millie. do you think you can stand it? Havin’ me for a daddy-in-law?
MILLIE: (Laughs) We can talk about it on the way home. (Takes VIC PRESCOTT’s arm)
SLIM SHERMAN: Here, I’ll take your bag.
(VIC PRESCOTT, STEVE PRESCOTT and MILLIE get into the carriage. SLIM SHERMAN puts the luggage in the back of the carriage and mounts his horse. All depart.)
