Epilogue – based on the script “Trial by Fire” by George Slavin
(DAISY COOPER is sitting in front of the fireplace reading the newspaper. MIKE WILLIAMS is popping popcorn in the fireplace. JESS HARPER is lying on the floor behind DAISY COOPER and MIKE WILLIAMS. SLIM SHERMAN is sitting on the chaise lounge with the DOG lying at his feet.)
DAISY COOPER: Oh my! (Reads from the newspaper) “Damage from the blaze has been estimated at ten thousand dollars. Credit for checking the flames goes to a number of local ranchers who fought for three days before bringing the fire under control.”
MIKE WILLIAMS: Hey, that’s us! We’re the local ranchers.
(The DOG gets up and goes over to JESS HARPER. The dog licks JESS HARPER’s face and nuzzles his bandaged arm.)
JESS HARPER: Hey girl, what ya’ doin’ huh? (Pause) Hey, Mike! Your popcorn’s on fire. (Laughs)
(Burning corn jumps out of the wire cage and MIKE WILLIAMS jumps back to DAISY COOPER, spilling more of the burning popcorn on the floor.)
DAISY COOPER: Oh!
(SLIM SHERMAN jumps up and stomps out the burning kernels.)
MIKE WILLIAMS: Gee, Slim, I’m sorry.
SLIM SHERMAN: (Kneels in front of MIKE WILLIAMS) Well, it’s sure a good thing you weren’t on that fireline. The whole Wyoming territory would have gone up in smoke.
