The Games People Play
Bart Maverick: Mostly you don’t catch me hanging around army posts. I don’t have a hankering for the military life. But this fort was different. There was always a big poker game going on in the suttler’s store. Trappers in from the wilds would take a hand and some of those cavalry boys in blue are pretty sharp card players. You know the kind. When payday came around they’d wind up with most of the money in the barracks. So whenever I was in the neighborhood, I’d drop in and try to even things up a little.
O’Dell: You got a true gambler’s heart, Maverick.
